Selfie and Shutterbug

Part 1: self portrait vs. "selfie"
In our world today, many people confuse the "selfie" and self portraits. A selfie is a photo taken of oneself by oneself, and is usually posted on social media websites. A self portrait is a photograph taken by the photographer of the photographer, it usually represents what they think of themselves. The difference between the two is that the selfie is for people who view the photo and the person who took it, while the self portrait is a piece of art. I personally prefer self portraits because they truly resemble how I, the photographer, feel in that very moment. Selfies are just quick poorly taken pictures while self portraits are clear and well taken photos. Self portraits are way more valuable than selfies because they are thought out, while selfies aren't valuable because not much thought is put into it. You may be wondering why people confuse these terms, well they are fairly similar to most people. Both are pictures of a person taken by that person, but there is much more thought put into self portraits. They can be painted, photographed, or sculpted. A selfie pictures is mainly for other people on social media websites to look upon.

Part 2: Shutterbug websites
PetaPixel is a website that has daily news, along with tutorials, photography, and photography equipment. The daily news stories include photographs and documents depending on the story. An average viewer of this site can learn about what is happening in their world today, without opinionated news stories on Fox or CNN. In each of these articles, the entire story is told, including background information, the main conflict, and how it was resolved. Most stories on major media sites are not truthful, this is why websites like these should be bookmarked for all photographers. PetaPixel is a very good site to use to be updated and educated on different things going on in the world today. The tutorial section on this site is very helpful to those who are starting in photography and would like to be educated. There are articles on using certain pieces of photography equipment, added lively touches in photoshop, and how to make use of your resources while taking photos. I recommend this website to all photographers who either want to learn, or who already have experience in the industry and would like to be even more educated. I would rate this website as a 5.

I personally enjoyed reading the article titled, "Grumpy Cat Wins $710,000 In Copyright Infringement Lawsuit". This article was about the popular internet meme, grumpy cat, who made a business deal with a coffee company. The owners agreed on the name, "Grumpy Cat", but not the photograph of the cat on the packaging. The beverage company did not include the cat's owner on that part. The owner filed a lawsuit against the company and ended up winning. This article was not at all opinionated and there were documents from the case presented in it. By the official court documents being shown, it proved to me that this was real and the facts were stated in the article. I chose to share this on my blog because it shows that many people have opinionated writings on the internet, and some of them don't include opinions, such as this one.

A selfie taken in Manhattan, New York. I thought the lighting was cool so I thought we'd take a selfie.
