Huntington Story

Janice Jones, a 53 year old woman in Barstow, California, was in her motor home eating pork chops when her dog pushed her 9mm handgun off of the table. The gun fired and the bullet ricocheted off the floor and hit Jones' leg, according to Highway Patrol press liaison Tammy Rye. Rye said, "It could have been worse. The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank."

"Jones was shot in the right leg around 10 p.m. Wednesday," Rye said.

Jones was transferred from Huntington Beach Hospital to the Irvine Medical Center according to Rye. Jones was treated at the hospital, but there was no additional information given.

Jones did not have a permit for her gun, according to Rye, officers cited Jones for expired plates and the county's district attorney's office was considering whether to charger her in relation to the gun accident.

Jones' dog, Tombo, a Pomeranian was sent to the Huntington Beach Animal Control officers. The dog was being abused by the owner, and had fresh cigarette burns on its forehead. "It could have done with a little less abuse and a few more of those pork chops," Janet Ngo said, one of the animal control officers. The Huntington Beach Animal Control officers would be filing animal abuse charges against Jones in the near future.
